Please don't cry

All I know is that I love you tonight

If you are special in some way, (vampire, werewolf, psychic, et cetera), how would you react if you woke up one morning stripped of your power?

Good fucking riddance. Hell, I might even dance. Be a lie to say I don’t like not dying when some bastard shoots me but the trade off is for shit. Ain’t worth it. I’m good enough to get shit done without it. I’ve gotten careless sometimes because I know I’ll get back up. I do it on purpose. Sometimes I do it as a scare tactic but I’d rather get by myself and be done with all the bullshit. It isn’t worth all the extra nightmares and pain. It isn’t worth the suspicion it causes in Xena or anyone else. Really isn’t worth wrestling all the time with the desire to destroy every motherfucking thing I see all the time. It’s not worth dealing with Lucifer or having to cut through his bullshit all the time.

I didn’t ask for these powers and sure the fuck didn’t want them. I was saddled with them while dying. I don’t even want to go into the bullshit thinking about that causes. Makes it all just a little bit worse.

None of this matters. I could wish in one hand, shit in the other and isn’t going to change a damned thing. Fuck wishing for things that can’t happen.

8.2 - Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
to hold her when I'm not around,
when I'm much too far away
We all need that person who can be true to you
But I left her when I found her
And now I wish I'd stayed
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
I'm missing you again oh no
Once again
Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God

Snake left Mel and his life felt changed somehow. Death always did that but he wasn't that close to her anymore. Hell he'd been told he wasn't welcome and still it crashed on him like a brick building that crumbled around him. It was too close to home maybe, too much like a past he never got to live or something else completely. It didn't matter. He needed to get home.

Plissken drove away from the villa feeling a sickness inside that had been kept away since Taylor died or maybe it was Maggie that was the last moments he felt it. No matter when it was last he felt it again. He had a long flight ahead of him. Too long before he would be home, hours. He didn't want to wait hours. Plissken pulled the rental car to the side of the road and got out. Nothing could wait. Not getting home and certainly not what was on his mind.

There was a means to remedy both. Normally he would have faltered making this call but not today. This was not a request for presence but demand when he called to Lucifer.

"How dare you demand my presence."

Snake turned on the voice using the emotion to set himself like a rock. Nothing Lucifer could say or do today would get an inch. "You owe me some favors."

"What do you require?" Lucifer seemed to relent too easily.

"Can you ensure someone gets to a "good" place after death?" Snake asked as he finally closed the car door.

"Your request is within my means." His words were flat.

"Good." Snake was closing the distance between them. His mind was racing wildly but he managed through something he couldn't explain to maintain control.

"Who do you wish to be spared agony beyond life? Surely you do not speak of some criminal who needs validated for wrongs."

The way Lucifer spoke with disinterest riled Plissken to anger. "No." Plissken all but spit the word with venom. "It's a friend's child."

"The unborn have no place in any world beyond this. They go into the same void you occupy between life and death. There they stay."

"I don't fucking care." Snake was not going to be turned away. "You WILL ensure he finds his way."

"There is no way to be found."

"Then make one." Snake was all but in the face of the angel. "You go soft and forget how to rebel?"

Snake saw a change in Lucifer's eyes. His gut said to run but his pride forced him to stay rooted where he was.

"I will do all in my power to ensure the boy finds peace."

"Good." Snake depuffed a little and looked out toward the west. "Take me home."

"Yours is healthy. Are you certain you wish to greet your wife in this state?"

"Did you know?" Snake asked and his voice was quiet.

"I did." Lucifer had a resolve that seemed on the verge of displeasure. "It is not my duty to choose which children will live a full life."

Snake nodded because really what could he say. "Take me home."

"You are as you wish."

Snake didn't understand until his eye focused. He was no longer in grass but chips of gray slag. It made no sense.

"It is a gift." Lucifer stepped away and Plissken was only aware of it because his shoes disappeared from his sight.

Snake finally turned his gaze up from the ground and saw his own home. Briefly he wondered about the abandoned car.

"Bria." It was a whisper before he burst into a full run. "Bria!"

He was screaming for her by the time he reached the house. All that pent up emotion turned to panic. Loss had seemed distant in regards to his children. Now they were full upon him like a weight.

In relation to Shy's kidnapping. Legolas is welcome to reply as is anyone else on the island.

It hadn’t been too difficult for Snake to convince the others to give him some time alone with Kevin’s body. They all wanted away though he did take up Legolas’ offer to help him dispose of the body. After a brief word to return back here in about an hour the elf was the last to leave him.

Snake stood for a moment staring down at the body. He was still alive in the Christian sense of the word perhaps. His soul was still in his body but not for much longer. Snake had never done this personally. It was always Lucifer who returned to finish this up when it was needed. Soul hunter. Lucifer had said to him. The title made him at once disgusted and oddly powerful. Plissken had to get to work.

Kneeling next to the body Snake didn’t even think of the person. He wasn’t worth it. Now he was just another collection like a credchit stolen from the bank and passing through Plissken’s hands until he spent them. That’s all this was. One soul for one favor from the prince of lies. It was more theft and like every other crime Plissken had a choice of what to steal.

Snake pulled out the small, silver vial that Lucifer had offered him. A container for blood to bind the soul wherever it was that Lucifer put people. He’d rather not think about where that place was or where such things happened. Plissken rolled Kevin's head and it lulled to the side exposing the gash where the blood was still gurgled when pressure was applied.

The urge to kill was rising in him as he worked. The wings were hazy. He would feel the wind ruffling the feathers. It was a strange feeling, enough that he paused to look back at them. Still just a faint glow and nothing tangible despite the obvious feeling of wind on body parts that he didn’t have; weren’t even his. Snake shook it off.

The vial only took a little blood to fill. Snake couldn’t look away from the blood leaking over the rim and onto his fingers. Plissken closed his eye and took a slow deep breath. Chaos was coming from inside. He was used to it and went on with his task. He pulled the bottle from Kevin’s neck and screwed on the cap. The wind was starting to blow up the beach. He felt cold for the first time since he’d come out this morning.

“I am impressed my son.”

The voice caused him to look up. He was too steady and intent to jump. Snake stood and turned toward the voice. The man who stood there was expected. White wings, pale skin and white blond hair with eyes so piercing you couldn’t determine the color unless he let you or you imagined one. Snake approached him with no sign of fear.

“Doing what the hell I want. The usual.” Snake responded and held out his hand.

It was a delicate touch that removed the bloodstained silver vial from Plissken’s palm. The small smile on Lucifer’s lips forced even Plissken to take a step, though a small one, back.

“I owe you a favor. What do you wish?”

Snake watched Lucifer examine the vial and wondered if Kevin was already where people were taken when they were sold to Lucifer. Despite his curiosity Snake realized he really didn’t give a damn.

“Don’t need one now.” Snake shrugged wiping the blood on his still wet pants.

“I can not imagine there is nothing that you wish.”

“Nothing.” Snake repeated.

“Greece is spectacular this time of the year.”

Snake shuddered. The temptation was there. He wanted to see Xena so badly that standing on the beach filled him with an ache. All he could think of was meeting her on Coney Island. Plissken frowned knowing it wasn’t his place to go looking for her. She had assured him that she would be back when she felt better.

“I know it is. I’ve been there at this time of year.” Snake smiled. “Xena’s probably hating me for sending that baseball with Solan.”

Lucifer seemed disappointed before nodding his relent to Plissken's resolve. “I will redeem it when you have need.”

“Thanks.” Snake watched Lucifer disappear before turning back toward the body. All he wanted to do was defile the body. Legolas surely knew ways to do that. Plissken sat down on the beach and stared at the body as if it were trash washed on the beach. Just a moment rest then he'd get rid of it.

“There goes our horseback riding.” Snake glared out the back door at the pouring rain.

“Baby.” Bria came up behind him and he shivered at her warm hands running up his biceps. “We’ll have to find something else to do.”

Snake turned curiously looking at her when they came face to face. “Like what?”

“What are you in the mood for?” Her fingers were playing with the buttons of his shirt. Plissken smiled. The first thing that came to mind having the whole house to themselves and standing in the kitchen was the first time they were together. Plissken leaned back against the wall watching her.

“How about we make some tea and watch some TV until we figure it out?” Snake really wanted to put her over the counter like he’d thought about more than once but didn’t. He had all day. Maybe when they made dinner together later he’d entertain that idea again.

“Are you sure?” She was teasing and briefly he wondered if she was interested in what he was thinking.

Snake leaned in and kissed her. “For now. Later I could go for dinner and some dessert.”

Snake slid his hand up over her hips. She purred and leaned in against him. That was almost too much for him to take.

“Come on. Let’s go before I change my mind.” Snake chuckled and tried to move past but she wouldn’t let him.

“What’s your other idea?” Bria asked with a sweet innocence that made his insides knot up.

“I’ll show you later,” Snake was really planning on it now.

“Tell me.” She wrapped her fingers in his shirt and held on.

Plissken’s gaze dropped to her fingers when he felt the fabric get tight around his chest. He leaned in and whispered. “Bend you over the counter, tear off those little panties you got on and fuck you 'til I can’t stand.”

The smile she had as she let go and smoothed his shirt was devilish. Bria was up to something. “You can’t do all of that.”

“Why not?” Snake questioned as she started walking toward the living room. He was watching the short skirt she was wearing swish. She stopped in the archway between the kitchen and dinning room. There, leaning against it, she looked like something out of a porn magazine. All legs and short skirt but not too short.

“I’m not wearing any.” She pushed off the wall and started walking again. Plissken blinked several times before looking at the tea pot. Taking a deep breath he grinned thinking about dinner. Dutifully he made the tea, biding his time. She was out for blood today and he was trapped in the house alone with her. He was suddenly thankful for the rain despite the increased pain in his bad eye. Who knew? Maybe he could use the pain as an excuse for a good massage while they had tea. Seemed promising.

Snake joined her in the den. Bria was already sprawled out on the couch. She looked amazing and he wondered if she knew. So often she thought she didn’t and it pissed him off but he tried to ignore it.

“Got the tea.” Snake sat the pot and two mugs down on the table before bending down to give her a kiss. She tugged his hand and he gladly slid in behind her with his back to the couch and Bria wrapped in his arms. The change in position too fast brought a spike of pain to his head. Plissken couldn’t help but wince.

“Baby?” Bria was concerned.

“Just the eye. Damn rain.” Snake grumbled waving off her concern.

Bria reached over and started rubbing the temple next to his bad eye. Plissken went slack from the surge of pain followed by absolute relief. The pressure of her fingers pressing into his head caused him to groan. He rarely felt a moment without crushing pain in his head.

“God… uh…mmmm... I love you.” Snake moaned the words out as he had a moment to relax and not feel the tension and pain pressing in on him.

“I know.” Bria whispered kissing his forehead. Her fingers started working circles over his scalp. Certain areas of his head caused his whole body to tingle and others just killed the pain always surging from his eye into his back. All of it felt wonderful. He let his eye close.

“Keep this up and I’ll do anything you want.” Snake meant it. There was nothing that could compare to how much he wanted the absence of pain even for a few minutes. His usual scowl relaxed into a slight smile. He felt at peace.

“Anything?” She asked still stroking his head in just the right places.

“You name it honey.” Snake pressed his head back into her fingers feeling even the dull aches fading away as he relaxed.

“Are you sure?”

Snake couldn’t see her grin but he didn’t need to. He could hear it in her voice.

“Lay it on me honey.” Snake turned his head making her fingers work over the left side of his head.

“Ok.” She fell silent before leaning forward to whisper. “I want to go riding in the rain with you. Then come home and get in the Jacuzzi, wash my hair. Cuddle.”

“Mmmmmm.” Snake liked the idea even if it meant she was going to stop rubbing his scalp. “I like how you think.”

His eye opened as he started to grin. “Do I get some active cuddles with that?”

“If you’re good.” Bria kissed his forehead again.

“I’m not just good. I’m the best.” Snake wrapped his arms around her and pulled her to his chest. The pain rushed back but he didn’t mind. He was used to the pain. Bria was giggling and that was all that mattered.

“You best get out and saddle your horse.” Bria poked his ribs and Snake cried out.

“Watch out or I’ll saddle you.” Snake threatened playfully.

“Not if you don’t behave.”

Snake rolled his eye. “Nothing like asking for a miracle.”

“I believe you can do it.” Bria whispered against his neck.

Plissken went silent after she said that. It meant more than a little tease in a playful romp to Snake. He couldn’t help taking it that way. He gave her a hug and kissed her cheek.

“Come on.” He pushed her up a little. “Let’s go make you happy honey.”

Plissken took her hand and got up with her. It hit him like lead. Her words were still lingering. She’d be his wife in a few days and right now, after saying what she had, he felt like she already was for the first time since they were together.

Snake wasn't exactly happy with this but when was he ever truly happy with what Lucifer asked? Never in fact. It had been a day and Snake went to find Anna. It was up to her now. his part of the deal may or may not be bad. who knew what he'd ask her for. Snake was sure it would be something he wouldn't like. Snake wasn't so good with London. You start with fire but you lose the flame
The ashes smolder but the warmth's soon gone
You end up cold and lonely on your own

I'll win your love or I'll take the fall

Someday lady you'll accomp'ny me

"You'll Accompany Me" - Bob Seger

Snake walked toward the house trying to understand what he had done wrong. He tried to teach her and it was an insult and when he didn't he was belittling her because she didn't know what to do. She was his own personal rock and a hard place. He really couldn't take it. Everything he suggested was an attack in her eyes when all he wanted to do was give her what she said she wanted.

His mind turned to his home when he slid the shed door open. His old bike sat there battered and dirty still like the day he'd showed up here. Everything was so dangerous back home. She just went on believing it was just like Greece, just like here. Snake had seen so many good people, prepared people, die.

The fear was rising in him. It was her need to prove herself and the dangers of the crazies. He feared she would just charge blindly into them to prove something to him. He was thinking about Maureen being pulled through the floor. His ears filled with her screams as they started taking bites out of her even as he tried to save her. Xena would never believe that something like that could happen to her but it could. Snake had watched whole squads of USPF with AK's fall under that swarm of humanity. He just hoped if they encountered that she would listen and run.

Plissken idily brushed the dust off the worn leather bags. He wanted a woman to run with and he thought Xena would be that woman. Now he discovered it was more dragging her along because she couldn't accept any of his skills or knowledge were worth a piece of shit. She wanted to be useful but refused to learn. What could he do? Nothing, other then be there to rescue her when they got home and she found things were as bad as he claimed.

Snake straddled the bike leaning forward on the gas tank. He was trying to clear his head so he could pack and get his gear ready. All he could see though were all the people he'd seen die. He was half tempted to leave her behind but then he'd just be fueling her hatred of him or whatever it was. Snake tried to think of anything at all. All he thought about was the woman he saw ride off on the horse.

Sitting up again he rubbed his wrists. Someone had put cuffs on him he couldn't break. He didn't want to break them oddly enough. He lived for the feeling, to be in love, to give everything he had and more to one woman. She scoffed at it and claimed his greatest joy was merely a ploy to break her down. Sighing Snake stood and wandered out to the pasture fence and stared at the horizon. There was a lump in his throat. He missed her already but if he asked her to stay she would see it as one more prison he was trying to erect for her.

He leaned on it watching Lucifer prance.

"I know your girl is gone with mine." The stallion tried to bite him as he rubbed his nose. Snake watched the horizon and then sighed as the horse chewed at his jacket cuff. Snake had a heavy heart as he looked away from the field and turned toward their house. His fingers twisted the ring on his finger. He couldn't help but wonder what she thought of it. Did she think it was a collar, a chain? Snake looked down at the gold band. He thought of it as a promise. It was nothing more then a reminder of the words he spoke at the altar. He meant every one of them. He hoped she did too. Maybe all of this was just her reaction to all the anxiety. It would calm and pass. He could wait for her come to terms with herself, with the "us" they had created. He always did.

Snake pulled away from Lucifer and headed for the house. He would force himself to concentrate on packing and his gear. There wasn't much else to do except wait for her to come back so he could grovel and apologize one more time to the woman he loved..

call_me_snake: (Cigarette - EFNY)
Snake had been unable to sleep and spent the night polishing all of his leather, cleaning his guns and any other mindless task he could find to do. He was going to meet his in-laws anyway so might as well try to make a good impression. Finally morning had rolled around and Snake found himself standing on the beach impatiently. The sun was just rising over the water when they arrived at the boardwalk. It seemed time had stopped or it was possible he was just staring at his watch too much. He wasn’t exactly nervous but the anticipation was too much. He should’ve had a drink or two before leaving despite his desire to be sober when Xena’s family arrived

Looking over at Xena he frowned and grumbled. He hated waiting. Snake lit another cigarette and leaned against a pillar trying to calm his nerves. He just wanted to get this over with. Meeting so many new people at once was not something he was exactly comfortable with and he still didn't know Xena's bride price. Once more he found himself reflecting on where he might find a herd of cattle or some other item a provincial Greek might ask for. It was at least a distraction from the waiting.

Been a long time since I picked up Paradise Lost. (Yes I fucking read jackasses.) Thought I'd share some of the best parts. Christ, read it so many times be surprised if I couldn't recite most of it these days.

"Such place Eternal Justice has prepared
For those rebellious; here their prison ordained
In utter darkness, and their portion set,
As far removed from God and light of Heaven"
-Paradise Lost Book I

“All is not lost—the unconquerable will,
And study of revenge, immortal hate,
And courage never to submit or yield:
And what is else not to be overcome?
That glory never shall his wrath or might
Extort from me.”
-Paradise Lost Book I

“Which way I fly is Hell; myself am Hell;
And, in the lowest deep, a lower deep
Still threatening to devour me opens wide,
To which the Hell I suffer seems a Heaven.
O, then, at last relent: Is there no place
Left for repentance, none for pardon left? “
