Oct. 25th, 2008 11:33 amIt had been almost a week since he'd been back. Things kept him away. A short stint in jail, running and actually trying to find out what he was looking for. It took a toll on him. He was exhausted by the time he pulled into the isolated drive in upstate New York. He missed being here. Even as a loner, having a homebase had a feeling to it that Plissken couldn't live without.
He was slow coming up the stairs and into the house. Dragging ass was a good term for it. Snake felt too tired to walk but there was a reason. He wanted to see those inside. Plissken had barely stepped into the house before they knew he was there.
"Daddy!"
Snake smiled through the exhaustion when he saw the little girl with wings running toward him. Cassie always got to him first no matter when he came home. Snake caught her in midrun and swung her up in his arms. Burning pain was in his back but he ignored it. Damned cops knifed him but he wouldn't let that interfere with coming home. This was his domain.
She kissed his cheek and he stood there holding her. He felt like he'd really come home. The moment was akin to coming back on military leave. He couldn't place why but there was certainly that feeling. Snake looked around the room and laughed.
"And where are the couch coushins?" Plissken carried her down the two steps into the livingroom Cassie was pointing and that's when he saw Mason bounding onto the pile of coushins now on the floor.
"You two!" Snake smiled and came over tossing Cassie into the pile of coushins then kissed the toddler and blowing raspberries on his cheek. The boy ran squealing away. Snake left them and headed for the kitchen where he heard voices.
Bria and Evie were sitting at the table in the dinning room with the twins on the table in bouncy seats. They were talking about pregnancy. Snake came up on her in the middle of the conversation. He turned Bria's head and took a kiss while the words were still coming out. He felt her breath hitch and Plissken deepened the kiss. The taste of her and the feel of her lips and tongue on his was something he'd forgotten just how much he missed the softness of her lips.
"Dad." Evie sounded disappointed. "You have a room for that."
Snake pulled away but left a hand in Bria's hair. "Yeah but this is convenient."
Plissken smiled at the cooing babies and kissed both of them. That's when he smelled it, Mexican food. "Fattening me up again?"
Both the women laughed. Snake just shook his head and took a seat with them to play with the twins for a bit. Snake loved running. He loved tangling with the cops and government but this right here, these people, would always bring him back off the streets and out of the war.
