Plissken was glad to be back in the states. After three months of nothing but missions out in the middle of eastern Russia Snake would have went to a garbage dump as long as it was warm and stateside. As luck would have it on arrival they were sent to Chicago for leave and training on a new software program for the targeting systems of the gulfires.

It was July, warm and they let them out for a day. Earlier had mostly involved sleeping in and gorging on real food in any place that caught their eye. Now that it was drawing toward evening they wanted to drink. The six of them found a rather low key bar and shuffled into a big corner booth together. They were drunk and relatively rowdy as the night wore on. It wasn’t much.. loud talking and too much laughing.

Snake got up to get another round. Sophia wasn’t old enough to drink and so he promised to find a virgin, girly drink for her. The bartender assured him that with a little time he could make a virgin margarita. Plissken waited eying up a rather attractive local who was standing beside him. He bought her a drink and stood talking to her. She was a secretary and single. She liked to drink whiskey which he thought was the best thing he’d heard in a long time. Together they stood there drinking whiskey and talking about his tour oversees. Things were going well and the drinks were lining up on the bar. Snake only now noticed that he wasn’t going to be able to carry them all to the table so he invited the girl to join them over in the booth.

She did join them and due to space constraints had to sit on Snake’s lap. He was all too happy with the situation especially when she got in close and wrapped an arm around his neck. Maybe he would stay off base until morning. That was when things went wrong.

To Snake, it appeared as though the girl just disappeared off his lap but the shriek told him something was horribly wrong. Some big, ugly bastard had pulled her off by her hair. He was going on about how she was still his. Snake glanced at the others who made a face. They didn’t want him getting involved but knew Plissken enough to see a fight coming. Snake stood up and scowled.

“Let her go son of a bitch.” Snake looked up at the man who had a good 3 or four inches on him.

“What are you going to do about it?” He shoved the woman away and turned on Snake.

Plissken didn’t even flinch as the bastard approached. Once he was in range Plissken sucker punched him full force in the stomach. It stumbled the man but he kept coming. Snake dodged a swing shoved his opponent. Off balance the man stumbled back again. Plissken kicked him and sent him back into the door which promptly shattered. Some of his friends got up as Snake chased him out the door.

A hit came to the back of the head that sent Plissken to the pavement. He rolled on instinct no matter the pain and saw his attackers now numbered four. He managed to get to his feet just as one came in. He took the punch to the side as he slammed his head into the attacker’s nose. It brought blood instantly. Snake ignored the wounded one and turned on the others. They were coming in hard and it took a trained eye to see one of them had a knife palmed. Snake could hear sirens coming. Inwardly, despite being reprimanded on base, he hoped those cops were coming here. Snake used his speed to keep from getting trapped. One dropped and Snake smiled when he saw Taylor revealed as one fell. He didn’t have time to say thanks as the glint of a knife caught his attention. Snake dodged praying those cops hurried the fuck up.

Night shifts were the most interesting to Officer Connie Murphy. She was over her probationary period and now a full Chicago Police Officer. She'd cycled through all the shifts, but the night shift brought out the real crazies and the drunks.

"Car 27-D, we've got a bar fight over on Monroe and Jackson." The radio barked, "Please respond. Car 33 and Car 40-A are providing backup."

Her partner, Officer Mitchell, picked up the radio before she could and said they'd respond. As they changed lanes, lights on and sirens full blast he glanced at the clock. "Huh, they started early tonight."

"It's never too early for a bar fight," she said, really looking forward to pulling apart a bunch of drunks and trying to get sensible statements out of them.

What they found outside the bar was a real brawl and Mitchell blared the horn before they both got out, yelling at the group, flashlights out, trying to blind eyes.

"Break it up!" Murphy stepped towards the group from one side while Mitchell came in from the other. Backup was arriving and soon they'd be pulling people apart. That's when she spotted the knife.

"Knife!" She focused her flashlight on it, then quickly stepped forward to grab the assailant's arm, twisting it back and taking the guy to the ground. She had the cuffs on him while Mitchell started to break up the rest of the fight and backup arrived on scene.

Snake and Taylor were both there in their Air Force blues. By this time the other four had come out. The only female of the six was pulling off her jacket and wrapping it around the woman Snake had gotten into this fight with.

Once the cops startled the people he was fighting Snake took a low blow and elbowed the one without the knife up under the chin. It dropped him to the ground. Snake backed away from the cops in submission but his stance was overly cocky. People were still staring at him from among the bar patrons but he threw them a challenging glance. Cops or not if they tried anything the fight would start back up.

Someone hit Taylor while the cops were disarming the guy with the knife and Snake went right back at them. He was a seasoned fighter and soon the bastard was bleeding from the mouth. He was going to be reprimanded anyway so why take shit?

"Hey, hey, hey!" She got up from the man who was subdued and tried to put herself between one of the Air Force guys and a normal drunk.

The man in uniform was pretty fast for someone who was supposed to be just another drunk in a fight. She wasn't quick enough to stop the first few blows but she still put herself between him and the guy he was after.

"That's enough!" Murphy threw as much authority into her voice as her attitude could back up and that was a lot. "Stop now before I arrest you too, sir!"

As soon as the cop got involved Snake backed up, hands out and open. Plissken looked her over and laughed. You don't got that kind of authority sweetheart.

He winked at her and probably smelled of whiskey even if he didn't notice. I'll be nice, just for you.

"If you really want to be nice, stand over there and don't hit anyone else." She pointed to a nice spot near the front entrance of the bar and far away from everyone else.

Right now she had to control the chaos and keep anyone else from getting hit more.

"I'll be along to take your statement in a moment."

Tell them to stop. I didn't start it.

Snake didn't move. He surveyed the people still fighting and wished he had a gun to shoot. That usually made fights come to a grinding halt.

He could pull authority but he'd get skinned by his superiors when he got back to base for that. Instead he calmly pulled out a cigarette and lit it while watching what was going on.

It was going to be one of those calls, apparently, where everyone was drunk and belligerent. She hated those calls.

She leveled a finger at him, "Stay."

And then turned to help her fellow officers break up the remaining fights and get people in separate corners. It took a few minutes, but eventually the authority got through the booze and everyone was settled.

Then she turned back to see if he'd gone anywhere.

Want me to sit up and beg too?

Snake rolled his eyes but waited where she said. The others had gone back inside the bar to keep an eye on Sophia and the girl he was with when it all started out. He was still smug over all the blood he spilled. After he tossed his cigarette he stood with his hands clasped behind his back at relaxed attention. It was boredom and his inability to sit still for five seconds. It turned to shifting around in place by the time he saw the female cop coming back.

He was drunk so she ignored the flippant remark. It was to be expected with drunks. They all had something to say.

When she came back, she had her pad out and a pen, ready to take his statement. "Okay, sir, can you tell me what happened here?"

He really wasn't that drunk. Standing there waiting had a way to sober him up just a little. She just didn't realize this was his attitude all the time.

A fight. Snake smiled. What does it look like happened?

"Good observation, sir," she said dryly.

Oh good, a wise ass. This was going to be fun.

"Can you remember the details of the fight or do you need to be taken in and sobered up because those gentlemen over there." She pointed over her shoulder to the other group of guys. "Claim you and your friends started this."

I am sober sweetheart. Snake flipped the bastard off before turning his attention back to the cop.

Maybe you should go ask the girl he was dragging around the bar by her hair?
Snake hadn't really looked at her face. His eyes kept roving elsewhere.

I busted his lip for being a fuck up. Then all these bastards started in on me. I can't help it they're too much of pussies to hold their own against one person.

Snake was talking a little louder than he needed to. He wanted to make sure all those other bastards heard him.

She was skeptical of his claim, considering how much whiskey she smelled but she wasn't going to antagonize him. She didn't want to make enemies out of witnesses.

"Officers are talking to everyone involved," she said, but her tone said she didn't like the sound of that. She looked over at the group again, taking a second look at them, this time seeing them as the aggressor and the problem.

"Do you want press charges?"

My squad is inside with the girl. Snake nodded toward the door to the bar momentarily cooperating.

Her question brought a snorting laugh.
Don't you think I've pressed enough?

Plissken shrugged. They didn't even hurt...

He trailed off touching the back of his head where he was hit. It hurt back there and would likely end up a goose egg. He winced as he felt it with his fingers.

Murphy motioned to one of the back up uniforms and pointed inside. She didn't really outrank anyone but she had plans one day to command. She was just starting early. He nodded and went inside.

"Legal charges, not just your fists," she said with a small, almost amused smile. He was annoying, but he wasn't all bad.

"Do you need any medical attention?"

Get all these people involved? I'm too direct for the court room. Snake was trying to make a joke of it but his tone was a little distant. Can't anyway. Back to war in a week.

Snake finally took his hand away from the back of his head. A smile crept back. Only if you'll be the one doing it.

He was flirting with a cop. He knew it but he had a definite appreciation for any woman with the balls to put on a uniform and command like she did.

"Alright, we're going to take them in for disturbing the peace and some property destruction," she said, closing her notebook with a snap. The other uniforms around her were shuffling men into the back seat of blue and whites.

She gave him a hint of a real smile. "I only know basic first aid. Head wounds are out of my skill range."

It was probably the uniform and the blue eyes that made her almost flirt back. She had a thing for uniforms and an even bigger thing for blue eyes. She was on duty though, she had to stay professional.

Might want to add assault. Snake thought that at least the one who started this should be charged for it.

It doesn't hurt as much as getting shot. Can't be too bad. The most she smiled the more he did.

Do you ever get out of this uniform? It intentionally sounded dirty but in all honesty he was asking when she got off duty.

"If the girl wants to press charges, we'll add it." Because they needed someone to do it. So far, they could only really hold him on some minor charges.

And he had a good smile too. That was almost worse. She really needed to be professional but it was hard in the face of a good smile. Most of the guy's she met while on the job were jerks.

"It does need to get washed every once and awhile." She dug into one of the pouches on her belt and pulled out a business card. After scrawling something on it, she held it out to him. It had her cell number and number for her precinct. "But right now, it stays on."

Work had to come first and she was merely insuring a witness could reach her if he wanted to press charges. That she had written when was a good time to call her, it was merely so he could reach her easier.

The brass might want to. Snake shrugged. They like to bust people.

When's wash day? Now he was getting a little out of bounds but he couldn't resist. She was flirting too.

Scott's can tell you where I am if you want to find me. He meant the Air Force base down south. Taking the card he flipped it over to read it. Next couple days though I'll be in your backyard Connie.

"We'll have that talk with the brass when we get back to the station house."

A dry look and she tapped the badge on her chest, "It's Officer Murphy, sir. Maybe if you call at the right time, you'll get Connie."

Although she hated going by her name. Her dad used it and she wasn't really feeling nice towards her dad right now but she'd let it go for now.

I'll get a call right after it. Snake shifted anxiously. He hated being reprimanded by the higher ranks.

Nice badge. Snake pointed at the pins he wore, mocking her just a little. Lieutenant Plissken but you can always call me Snake.

Snake smiled and would definitely call even if he had to make up a reason.

She could guess at the trouble he was in. She'd try to get a report to the Air Force brass that worked in his favor.

And yes, it irked her a little that he out ranked her. She was going to be a Lieutenant, she was going to be Captain one day. The nickname made her raise an eyebrow though. "I see, Lieutenant Plissken. You have a nice rest of the evening. No more fights, please."

"Calling me's a better way to get my attention." And she had to go. No more excuses to hang around and talk to the attractive Air Force Lieutenant. She got bad into her patrol car, ignoring Mitchell's smirk.

You too baby. He winked at her. Don't get into anything you can't handle.

Thanks for the advice. Snake grinned and turned back to confront the same kind of smirks except one disappointed girl smile. Snake tucked the card into his pocket as innocently as he could.

She endured teasing about it for the rest of her shift. She ended up punching Mitchell hard in the arm when she got really annoyed and he laughed about it. She laughed about it a little but...

She was really hoping he'd call her.
