Back to foster care (Tag Billy and Hope)

Takes place two days after this and the day after this.

Snake hobbled to the garage wrestling one handed with the lock and keys. He’d promised Hope he would take her to see Billy. Nothing would stop him, even being shot. Plissken pulled out Billy’s bike first and pushed it up the ramp into the Humvee then went back for Hope’s bike. Hers was heavier and he had to struggle to push it inside. The task completed Snake sat on the bumper relaxing. The pain was coming in pulses through the left side of his body, from the leg, to his shoulder and finally into the back of his eye where it felt like a power drill grinding into his skull.

He had already maxed out on his daily dose of painkillers and turned to a few sips from his flask to help dull the pain or at least relax him some. After a few more minutes Plissken pulled down the ramp and closed up the back waiting for Hope to come out. It wasn’t long until she showed up with her back pack and got in.

As much as Snake hated to admit it, his daughter had to help him into the humvee. He clutched the wheel with a death grip but managed to smile at his daughter in the seat beside him. She knew he was in pain, everyone knew he was in pain but it was old habit to hide that weakness as much as possible. Push on through they always said in the military and Plissken still took that to heart.

The drive into the city was fairly uneventful though Plissken was anxious the whole way. He knew the cops were still looking for him. Luckily the foster home was in the suburbs. The cops still believed Snake was a full time city dweller. That had advantages he had never dreamed of.

Snake pulled into the lot and dreaded leaving his guns outside. Looking over at Hope bounding from the passenger side removed his hesitation. It took him some time to slowly walk to the front of the building. He refused to limp and in order to accomplish that through the pain he had to take his time. Snake pulled his coat off and hung it in the reception area before checking in. It was more difficult this time due to the news but he managed. He filled out Hope’s papers and soon presented her with a visitor’s badge. Snake was glad it was the woman out front. The guy who worked in the place creeped him out, no one should be that happy.

“He’s back in the TV room.” Snake motioned down the hall. He had a pretty good sense of the layout. He waited for Hope then headed for the room where he was told Billy was.

The boy laughed. "William's got a little girlfriend to stick up for him!" The boy and the other boys around him burst out laughing.

"Yeah? Well least he ain't no sissy," and as she said that, every boy that laughed seemed to suddenly be dressed in girls clothes. Frills, bows the lot.

The boys look horrified. Billy's cheeks were red with laughter. "Maybe next time the girlyness will go beyond your outfits! Losers! Danny, Luke, Coop! Hahah!" Billy whispered 'thank you' and 'you're awesome' to Hope.

Grabbing his hand she dragged him out into the garden and over to a bench and sat, holding his hand. "Billy, that card, you wanna be my...you know." Blushing she looked up at him.

Billy blushed and looked at Hope. "I never liked any girl as much as you before. I never known anybody like you."

She cuddled close and leaned against him that bit more, "Billy, you know I wont be little forever."

Billy put his arms around her and looked down sadly. "I know, Snake told me. Its not fair. I wish you didn't grow faster than me."

Leaning her head against his shoulder she sighed, "Wish you'd grow up like me then we could be together."

"You could wait for me to grow up. Then we can be together forever. Like Snake and Xena." Billy was afraid he might cry. He didn't want Hope to grow up, he didn't want to loose her.

"What's that? Ten years or more?" She looked down, her fingers holding onto his, "Long time to wait."

A tear dripped down Billy's cheek. "How much longer do you get to stay small?"

Hope closed her eyes and tears fell down her own cheeks, slowly she turned, hiding her face in his neck. "I don't know. Really I just turned one, not that long ago...wish you could grow up too."

Billy hugged Hope tightly and rested his face in his hair. "I wish I could be big with you too. I wish we grow the same amount. I wish that you would still be around when I get big but probably some big boy will fall for you first. Probably tons of big boys."

Slowly she began to sob softly, "W-want's you, want's it to be you."

Billy cried with her. "I want it to be me too. I want to be with you forever and ever. Stay small! Stay small!"

"I-I can't." Her tears fell faster, "Should be big already. Dadda made deal with Gangid that made me stay small this long."

"I'll make a deal! Can't I make a deal?" Billy's voice was desperate.

She shrugged slowly, still holding onto him, "F-for what?"

"For you to stay small or for us to grow at the same speed!" Billy held Hope's hands.

"I-if you could would only be you g-gettin big, not me stayin small. Can'ts. Dadda's tried."

Billy scowled. "But I love different. Maybe it would work for me. Or maybe I should just get big."

"I can't, I'm not human Billy." She looked at him with teary eyes, "And if you got big...bout Mac and growing up." Although he wouldn't need to be in a childrens home.

"Maybe I can make a deal for you to be human! Like Shrek made a deal for his love to be an orgre for him," Billy cried and looked down. "You're going to forget about me."

Reaching up she wiped her cheeks, "My name, it's more than a name. I'm hope, when I get older I'm supposed to be that, to give people that. I was supposed to get big before now."

"Never forget you Billy, never..." Hope began to cry again, harder this time.

"No!" Billy yelled. "I won't let you get big without me! I'll do anything."
