Snake had been looking forward to this in a way. Bria was here in the park with Cassie and Mason. There was a trade off. Evie was watching the twins at home in exchange for Mason going to the park with his aunt. Snake chuckled a little at the thought. He’d stretched out on a park bench in the sun that had a good view of the playground. All he wanted to do was lay here and read the newspaper. He wanted to be lazy and lately that chance hadn’t presented itself.
The sports page was first and he read it half heartedly while feeling the need to doze in the sun and with his mind thoroughly distracted every time Bria came down to this end of the playground where the paper didn’t compete with his attention. She was pregnant and just knowing she was raised his desire for her in all ways. It was an odd feeling of possession that he noticed she seemed very comfortable with.
With some effort he forced his attention back to the article about the Knicks before he could get too far down the track of dirty thoughts that came with any concentration on Bria or Xena if she had been here. The article was never finished before Snake lost interest. Folding the paper he shoved it under his back to keep it from blowing away. Later he would read it. Maybe.
His eye closed in brief intervals between watching his family and the lull of the sun and the park bench which he’d managed to find comfortable position on despite being metal. It was a nice day, warm but lightly brisk because it was fall.
His eye closed all the way and when it opened there was a man talking to Bria. Plissken watched the man sizing him up for a threat. He was in his early thirties maybe but Plissken was watching other signs. Sometimes people in the park talked when their children played together. Snake was civil enough to let that slide. His eye took in Bria’s reaction too.
When his fiancé backed up Plissken got to his feet. He started across the rubber matting with a coal fire of out of control hate. That possession that Bria was so fond of did not bode well at all for anyone who dared invade his territory even accidently. He got close enough that he could have heard the conversation if it wasn’t for the pounding of his heartbeat filling his ears.
“She’s my fiancée.” Snake put himself right between the intruder and his family. He had entered the other man’s personal space to the point of nearly brushing against him. Anyone knew that was a challenge.
“I was only talking to her. God.”
Plissken glanced at Bria who was away with the kids. She hadn’t stayed probably because she knew what was going to happen.
“Were you?” Snake locked a fiery gaze with the man who wouldn’t back down. “You aren’t now.”
“Only because of you.”
That snapped something inside and Plissken lashed out hard with his left fist balled so tight his knuckles went white. The impact cracked hard into the side of his jaw sending the man stumbling over the wooden edge of the playground proper to a full sprawl in the grass. Plissken moved in watching the downed man. That was a warning if he didn’t leave now this would turn ugly.
Inside Plissken felt turmoil. The anger was there raging over a challenge to his claims. It only burned hotter when he considered Bria being harassed. With the rage came a definite sense of sexual energy. He had the back corner of his mind on putting Bria down somewhere to assert himself whether it was needed or not. He wanted to take her and then return to whatever the day still had to do.
Even distracted by his own growing arousal and the thought of putting Bria up against one of the trees in the open, right here in the park he didn’t miss the swing. Snake blocked, dodged and came around twice as enraged as he had been walking over to this other male. When the warning failed to work and the challenge was met Plissken devolved into something far more feral than a person.
He slammed his forehead into his nose. It was a fast way to bring up blood as he shoved the still viable intruder away from the playground and what was for this brief time his territory. Plissken thought in those terms often, mine was a common word in his own thoughts when it came to things but also people.
This time the downed man did the sensible thing and walked off down the path. Plissken observed him closely while wiping the small specks of blood off his cheek. Satisfied he went back to his family. The children were playing. They knew how their patriarch acted, how he had always acted.
Bria hugged him when he got close enough. He could smell her, the shampoo and the perfume and feel warm hands under his jacket. Plissken ran his cheek against hers. He was afraid to kiss her because what he wanted wouldn’t stop once he started down that road. She pulled tighter and he responded by pushing his hand between them, up to cup her breast. He could see she knew right where he was mentally. Snake took a kiss and she pressed back into in with her mouth open to his. He growled into the kiss when he felt her tongue brush his. Everything in his mind had gone the logical progression; relaxation, to anger, to lust with a need to go back to relaxing.
“Why don’t you drive us home?” Her voice was soft against his cheek before he felt a gentle brush of lips. Snake pulled back but the scowl pressing his lips into a thin line wasn’t the anger anymore it was disappointment with his inability to have what he wanted right now. Bria pulled away farther, smiling at him in a way that was not innocent at all. It was filled with invitation. The kind of smile a woman gave when she kissed a man good night but hoped he would keep her awake.
She took a few steps toward where the children were but Snake stayed still. His eye roved the curve of her ass in the jeans she wore, down the legs and to the boots before sliding back up. Snake only snapped out of it and forced his mind elsewhere when Cassie took his hand. Home first then he could go back to what he was thinking. Snake smiled and started walking in silence. He still wanted another fight when he took Bria’s hand. Mason was in her arms making a little fist and pushing it at Bria’s cheek. Snake just shook his head. An hour was going to be a long drive but another smile from the woman holding his hand was all he needed to get by for now.
