Snake had left New York after his talk with Rachel. He wasn't so happy about it and knew it would mean not seeing her but some things were more important than him or his friends. Snake could recognize that at times. The drive to Illinois wasn't a bad one. He had a long talk with Cronenberg on the way. He was looking for a scientist to help. He needed one for this job. His eye drifted to the case of stolen biotoxin. Snake had seen the outcome of exposure and the whole experience seemed surreal.

Cronenberg had seemed even more nervous about the item int he sealed black briefcase than Snake had. When the man who can mostly, almost calmly inject explosives into a man's neck gets nervous Plissken got a pain in his guts. However Cronenberg assured him he knew a scientist who could help and that would be able to meet with him in Springfield. If any relief could be had that was it. The remainder of the drive involved hours of working over every contingency and possibility his mind could conceive. It kept him busy on the nearly 20 hour drive. He didn't dare stop.

Plissken drove on to the motel and got in his room. He still had the case sitting on the edge of the bed when his boots were off. He feared the case. He didn't fear much but this thing in particular deserved the fear driven respect. Peeling his shirt off he tossed it aside before carefully sliding the case beneath the bed. He needed the sleep. His sleep was fitful. Between the terror of the people he had met down stream from the plant and the night terrors of somehow the case would come open while he slept it was hard to get more than twenty minutes at a time.

Eight AM arrived leaving Plissken swearing he was more tired now than he had been when he laid down. There was a brief wish for a couple lines of coke to get him moving before he forced himself to sit up. Cronenberg had set the meeting for this room come nine thirty. The first item of business was to wake up. Shuffling he headed for the bathroom, kicking his pants off along the way. He turned the cold handle all the way around before getting in the shower. The water was freezing but it was instant wake up call. Three minutes was all it took before he was back out trying to dry the goosebumps away.

He dressed quickly and unpacked the food Bria had insisted he took along. There was nothing quite as comforting and good as cold spaghetti and meatballs for breakfast. Plissken stretched out on the bed to eat. He needed to relax and take advantage of it before he embarked on his endeavors to deal with the mutigen. Satisfied with his meal he laid back to wait for his meeting. There was still an hour before she was due. No time like the present to get some of the relaxing done.

Just don't bring any pinned butterflies to my house. Snake laughed. Probably make my daughter cry.

She smiled "Don't worry, my father prefers creepy crawlies."

"Spiders, cockroaches, things of that nature. Bugs that feed on corpses. He can pretty much identify any bug found on a body at a crime scene."

Snake nodded and pulled back into the motel lot.

Snake smiled. I'll let you in then when you're done sleeping you can just leave and let the door shut.

She gave a nod "Thank you."

Snake got out and went to open the door. No problem sweetheart.

She gladly climbed out and walked right into the room and literally flopping down on the bed face first with her arms to her side. "ni ni." Ni ni...how...childish...

Snake left the case of vials on the chair for her. Sleep weel baby.

Snake was unphased by the way she said it but smiled as he walked out to leave.
